NEW Netz, Mönchengladbach
The spatial structure at NEW Netz GmbH in Mönchengladbach was hierarchically conventional: cell and individual offices, separation of managers and employees. Networked cooperation was therefore difficult. This should change with the move to a new building.
But first, the needs of the various players had to be identified. To this end, we moderated workshops with management, managers and employees. First, the principles of a corporate culture for the future work model were defined and then the individual wishes and ideas of employees were taken into account. On this basis, we developed a spatial and design concept for NEW Netz GmbH's new working environments, which make flat hierarchies tangible and strengthen employee satisfaction.

Home office and desk sharing were also taken into account during planning — models that were previously not common practice at NEW Netz GmbH. Thanks to a grid structure, the individual modules can now be flexibly adapted to different work situations. Only the middle zone, in which, among other things, the coffee point is located, forms a static unit. It is designed as an oversized apostrophe in the form of the company logo in CI berry - the identity-creating element in multispace, which is all about networked togetherness.

Interactive spaces in open multispace promote collaboration and spontaneous exchange. For example, an integrated wooden wall can be folded out and converted into a writeable wall niche. There are also other rooms for project work, but also focus boxes that employees can use for video conferences, 1:1 phone calls or as a place of retreat.
The change from a conventionally structured work environment to an open workspace is always accompanied by a change in culture. That is why we held another workshop with the employees before moving in, in which they developed a working etiquette together. This contains rules, including volume, cleanliness and order. They help ensure successful cooperation.

For other working modes, the open working environment was supplemented by specifically placed cubes: from retreat options for focus and project work to reduced, mobile cubes in black for video calls and exchange in small groups.
